Norman Receives Blue Painter’s Tape Award

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Norman Bodek was the keynote speaker at the Lean Construction Summit put on by the International Group for Lean Construction in East Lansing, MI. Norman was his usual fiery self. In addition to calling for a full adoption of quick and easy kaizen, he spoke passionately about education, management, and the general resignation to make change. Norman translated and published over 100 Japanese texts on lean manufacturing in addition to the 300+ English texts. It was my pleasure to present Norman with a photo of blue painter’s tapeOne of the first recorded QnEKs in the construction industry involved blue painter’s tape. autographed by the founders of the IGLC and the organizers of the 15th annual conference. Thank you Norman for making the wisdom of geniuses available to the world. We’re forever indebted.

QnEK Is Team Sport

I challenged a new client to a first-month QnEK goal of an average of 4 QnEKs for each member of the team and a minimum of 3 QnEKs for each person. There were four teams. None met the goal. However, the 38 people recorded 130 QnEKs. That’s an average that exceeds 3 adopted improvements/person/month. The average in Japan is 2/person/month. This is quite an achievement.

How did this group do so well? It started with an invitation to take up the challenge. Management joined in. They provided encouragement and coaching along the way. They also made a game of it. They offered lunch at their choice of restaurants for the team with the most QnEKs as long as they made the minimum requirements. Unfortunately, no team hit the minimum targets. I suspect they will this month.

There’s more to the QnEK promotion activities. I’ll let you know tomorrow. In the meantime, introduce your team to the QnEK sport.
